How many days do you need on PEI? We have a travel trailer and are looking to see all the hot spots before traveling to New Brunswick.
Dear Judy,
Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.
It is hard to say exactly how long you will need on Prince Edward Island. Some will tell you three to five days and others say that it will take a lifetime!
The coastal drives around the Island are a wonderful way to travel. North Cape Coastal Drive is 350 km, about a five-hour drive, without stopping, but you will want to stop. The tall red dramatic cliffs are photo worthy along with lighthouses, harbours, windmill farms and charming small communities. This is a full day of touring with visits to the Canadian Potato Museum, Island Traditions Store, Experience Lennox Island and a tour of the West Point Lighthouse and Museum.
Central Coastal Drive is 253 km and a solid four-hour drive. This is a great drive featuring the Green Gables Shore and Red Sand Shore. Visit the village of Victoria by the Sea with artisans to visit and restaurants serving some of the freshest seafood and popular meals on the Island. Did I say lobster roll? Next, travel to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. and walk the gardens. In North Rustico, stroll the harbour front and stop into Pedro's for an amazing meal or the Village Bakery for a treat. Along the way, stop at the PEI National Park and walk the property of Green Gables Heritage Place.
All things Anne will take an entire day to enjoy!
Points East Coastal Drive is 475 km. We advise visitors that this route is a seven to eight-hour drive, so consider touring for two days. Boasting over 50 beaches, this is a sea glass haven for those who love beachcombing. Here, you will find small harbour communities, farms, unique nooks and crannies and even a cow or two! Visit Orwell Corner Historic Village, Point Prim Lighthouse, Rossignol Winery, Murray River & Murray Harbour, Montague, Roma at Three Rivers, Georgetown, Souris beach (known for sea glass), Basin Head, Elmira Railway Museum and the PEI National Park at Greenwich.
Then, there are countless festival and events, the Island Walk and Confederation Trail, beaches, deep-sea fishing, clam digging and culinary experiences.
With a lot of options for seeing and doing, I'd also recommend a day down or beach day.
Happy vacation planning!

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
