if I drove along the coast of PEI how long would it take
Hell Rob,
Prince Edward Island has three Coastal Drives, North Cape Coastal Drive, Central Coastal Drive and Points East Coastal Drive.
North Cape Coastal Drive is 350 km, about a five-hour drive, without stopping. You will want to stop, the tall red dramatic cliffs are photo worthy! Lighthouses, harbours, the windmill farms and charming small communities. The red beaches are ideal for beach combing. I could spend a day traveling this coastal drive and still find things to see on day two.
Central Coastal Drive is 253 km, a solid four-hour drive. This is a great drive featuring the Green Gables Shore and Red Sand Shore. Visit the artisan village of Victoria by the Sea. Then travel to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. and walk the grounds, walk the boardwalk in North Rustico and stop into Route 6 Fish & Chips for an amazing deep fried clams, enjoy the National Park beaches, visit the Kensington bakeries and walk the property of Green Gables. I tell people at minimum, this is two to three days of sightseeing.
Points East Coastal Drive is 475 km and we tend to advise visitors, this is a seven to eight-hour drive, so consider two days. Boasting over 50 beaches, this is a sea glass haven for those who love beach combing. Lovely small communities, Roma, Orwell Corner, farms, unique nooks and crannies and visit the harbour to see what the boats are landing! Toss in deep-sea fishing, Singing Sands, a beach visit, museums and this can be three to five days of exploring.
So, although the three drives take about 17 hours to do, without stopping, you will never be able to do it in that time and actually get to stop and enjoy all the beautiful things that make Prince Edward Island so special.
Enjoy your drive!
