Brew pubs are springing up across PEI and it is so nice to have these unique, creative spaces in our towns, cities and country settings.
Let's begin our tour in the east, in the town of Montague. This pretty town boasts two brew pubs - Copper Bottom and Bogside Brewing. Copper Bottom is set on a hill overlooking the waterfront with a full wall of windows and an outdoor deck that provide a scenic view rain or shine. The pub is owned by a local singer-songwriter and her husband and you might find a music session in progress. The brews are very good and they feature PEI Handpies for a food item! The new brew pub in Montague is Bogside Brewing and I am hearing great things about their food menu and beer selections.
In Charlottetown, you will find three brew pubs - Upstreet Craft Brewing, The Gahan House and the PEI Brewing Company. Upstreet is a cool, indoor/outdoor space. The Gahan House is a restaurant/pub downtown and the PEI Brewing Company is an industrial style venue. All are comfortable, welcoming and boast fine brews!
Further west in Breadalbane, you will find Barnone Brewery and Hop Farm - down a country lane and in a barn! This is such a serene, unique setting overlooking the fields and hills of central PEI. You might even find a square dance in progress!
Lastly, in the area Islanders call 'up west', in a seaside setting, you will find 'Moth Lane Brewery'. Self described as a 'small but growing brewery in the middle of nowhere but in the heart of somewhere,’ it sounds quite 'down home'.
Visiting these breweries across PEI sounds like a great few days out and though all of the brew pubs listed are open for customers, most have their brews on tap at bars and restaurants across PEI.
