PEI beef is some of the most sought after in Canada and it's no wonder why! Our Island beef is raised on a smaller scale and their diet includes potatoes as part of their finishing feed. Animal comfort is also a primary focus. Most cattle on PEI often only stand on pasture or soft padded floors. It makes a difference in the end quality of the protein.
I'm not sure what your budget is Carol, so I will give you a few options with the additional caveat, "you get what you pay for."
You'll find a lively atmosphere and an approachable steak and fries at Gahan House which is located in the heart of Downtown Charlottetown. It's served with a mushroom salad and a sweet onion gravy. At $24, it's a price that is hard to beat for a strip loin steak. The Gahan is also a brewery, so there are plenty of options for pairing our delicious beef with a wonderful mug of suds.
Across the street from the Gahan, you'll find the Old Dublin Pub and the Claddagh Room housed under the same roof. They've been around for a long time, consistently delivering value for product and experience. If you're looking for something very casual, the Old Dublin offers a steak and stout pie as well as a strip loin steak for $22 or less.
For a more refined experience offering cuts like beef tenderloin, the Claddagh Room offers that.
Finally, if you are looking for a special occasion steak done in the classic steakhouse style, I'd be remiss to omit Sim's Steakhouse and Oyster Bar from this list. The pepper steak is a classic item that has been on their menu for years as is the Beef Bacon and Bleu appetizer. I think you'd love both!
I hope this helps. There are also pubs around town that sell $15 dollar steaks if you're really looking for a bargain, but the above I suggested are good value all around.
Have a fantastic visit to our Island! Happy eating!
